In a social media statement, Araghchi criticised Macron for supporting US President Donald Trump during the war against Iran, arguing that the French leader should take responsibility for his political choices and address the concerns of French citizens.
Araghchi said blaming other parties would not resolve the situation and called on Macron to understand the reasons behind the protests and give greater attention to public demands.
He said French citizens were calling for significant changes in their country, including guarantees of the right to freedom of assembly. The Iranian foreign minister urged Macron to take these demands seriously and consider public opinion on France’s future.
The statement comes amid debate in France over the reasons for public protests and the impact of rising fuel prices. According to Iranian media reports, Macron referred to high fuel prices linked to the war between the United States and Iran while discussing the demonstrations.
Responding to Macron’s remarks, Araghchi questioned the French president’s policies and his support for US actions against Iran.
The Iranian foreign minister also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of trying to push the United States into another war to avoid prison. Araghchi’s statement did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation.
His remarks reflect Tehran’s effort to link political and economic concerns in France with US and Israeli policies in the Middle East. The causes of protests in France and the role of government policies remain subjects of political debate.
Araghchi concluded by urging Macron to stop shifting responsibility onto others, listen to the French public and respond to citizens’ demands concerning the country’s future.
