The publication examined WhatsApp beta version 2.26.41.11 and found signs of a feature that would let users attach audio to stickers created from images and videos.
WhatsApp may introduce sound-enabled stickers
Stickers are a popular feature on WhatsApp, allowing users to create static and animated designs from their own images and videos. The planned update could expand these options by introducing sound-enabled stickers.
According to Android Authority, a sound-wave icon appears in the sticker creation toolbar when users make a sticker from an image. Tapping the icon allows them to add audio by recording their voice or selecting an audio file stored on their device.
The audio can be up to 10 seconds long, giving users the option to add short voice messages or other sounds to their stickers.
For animated stickers, WhatsApp is testing a feature that automatically adds five seconds of audio from the original video. Users can replace this audio with a custom recording or another audio file from their device.
Once a sound-enabled sticker is sent in a chat, a speaker icon appears alongside it. Recipients can use the icon to turn the audio on or off.
The feature could offer users another way to personalise conversations, although it remains under development.
WhatsApp may allow users to remove sticker outlines
Android Authority also reported signs of another change to the sticker creation process that would let users remove the outline typically added around stickers.
The option is expected to appear as a toggle in the sticker creation toolbar. Users would be able to switch off the outline when creating a sticker, giving them greater control over its appearance.
The change would provide an additional customisation option for users who prefer stickers without the visible border.
WhatsApp tests redesigned message box
Alongside the sticker updates, WhatsApp is testing a redesigned message box with a two-line layout.
Under the proposed design, the text entry area would occupy the upper line, while attachments, GIFs, stickers and photos would appear on the lower line.
The revised layout would separate message composition from media and attachment controls, changing how users interact with the chat interface.
However, the sound-enabled stickers, outline removal option and redesigned message box are still being developed. Their appearance and functionality could change before a wider release, and there is no confirmed public rollout date for these features.
