During the visit, she will attend a ministerial meeting focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital inclusion in Pakistan.

Pakistan is set to become the first country to sign the Digital and AI Compact, with Shaza Fatima expected to present the country’s future roadmap during a dedicated session.

The minister is also scheduled to meet a Google vice president to discuss digital technology and artificial intelligence.

She will hold bilateral talks with a vice president of the World Bank as part of efforts to advance cooperation in the digital sector.

During the summit, Shaza Fatima will also share Pakistan’s perspective on expanding internet access and ensuring the wider availability of digital services.

Earlier, the minister said Pakistan’s AI policy had been formulated after comprehensive consultations and that the government would now focus on its implementation.

Speaking at an event in Islamabad, she stressed the need to embrace emerging technologies to support the country’s progress and development.

Pakistan does not yet have a dedicated regulatory framework specifically for artificial intelligence. However, several existing policies and regulations address challenges associated with digital technologies and cybersecurity.

These include the National Cyber Security Policy 2021, Pakistan Cloud First Policy 2022, CERT Rules 2023 and sectoral regulations such as the Critical Telecom Data and Infrastructure Security Regulation (CTDISR).
